This blessing monastery was during the Middle Ages one of the most important communities in the Western Christian world, Thanks to its strategic position a crossroads between different river and land communication routes : between Toulouse, Bordeaux and the Albigensian, between Quercy and Gascony, the abbey enjoys favorable treatment under the reign of the Carolingians. A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE CLASS CLOISTER This is the first cloister to have preserved its sculpture intact. It is remarkable for its 76 capitals, 46 of which are historiated, as well as for its corner pillars. The portal: 12th century: constitutes another monument of Romanesque sculpture famous for its tympanum which illustrates a vision of the apocalypse according to Saint John. The 12th and 15th century St Pierre abbey: Its base is Romanesque, the upper part is Gothic.
